Intermediate Wheel Throwing Course

Over the span of eight weeks, intermediate pottery students will progress their fundamental understanding of wheel throwing at Charles Street Studios in Northvale, New Jersey. The first two hours of class will be demonstration-based, while the remaining hour will be used for students to work at their own pace and clean up.

Students will learn how to give shape to their cylinders and throw larger pieces, trim pieces on cones, and deepen their understanding of glaze chemistry. Personal instruction will be provided by studio potter, Shawn McNulty-Kowal. Students will be responsible for paying for clay and firing fees.

Prerequisite: Introductory Wheel Throwing at Charles Street Studios or prolonged prior experience on the wheel and inside of a studio.

Introductory Wheel Throwing Course

Over the span of eight weeks, beginner pottery students will learn the fundamentals of making pottery on the wheel and off the wheel at Charles Street Studios in Northvale, New Jersey. The first two hours of class will be lesson-based, while the remaining hour will be used for students to work at their own pace and clean up.

Students will learn how to wedge and center clay, throw and trim forms on the wheel, and glaze and fire their pieces to take home. Personal instruction will be provided by studio potter, Shawn McNulty-Kowal. The studio will provide the necessary tools. Students will be responsible for paying for clay and firing fees.
