A GRAND SUCCESS!

On Saturday and Sunday, April 27 and 28, 2024, the Charles Street Studios offered its Second Annual Artists’ Show and Sale. An impressive collection of pottery filled three gallery rooms.

Nine ceramicists displayed their work. David Shirey of Northvale, and Christina Jensen of Montvale exhibited both wheel-thrown and hand-built work. Wheel-thrown pieces were shown by Jennifer Park of Cliffside Park; Shawn McNulty-Kowal from Northvale; and guest artist Susan Bogan of Montvale. Hand-built pieces were presented by Denise Kadar of Edgewater; Ruth Irving from Yonkers, NY; Lauren Koslow from Tenafly; and Deb Reale of Northvale.

David Shirey collected a crowd of curious spectators during his wheel-throwing demonstrations on Saturday and Sunday.

In addition, several members of the studio community who didn’t show their work helped out with publicity and sales: Erica Conti, Pat Ix, Marge Kirshenbaum, Youwha and Jane Lee, and Kirsten Jensen.

The potters provided tours of the facility for their guests. Charles Street Studios is a full-service ceramic arts workspace offering a range of space rental options for experienced potters. Currently, 10 ceramicists in the semi-private area use wheel- and hand-building techniques. Shelf rentals can accommodate as many as 20 artists in the community area. Members have use of 8 electric pottery wheels, one kick wheel, a slab roller, various hump and slump molds, a wedging table, glazing area, and 2 electric kilns that are fired to cone 6. Space is available for workshops in a variety of arts and crafts.

Visitors commented on the diversity and excellent quality of the work shown in the gallery. “There are so many amazing potters in this studio!” related Diane. “I loved seeing the wide range of pieces and their beautiful glazes.”

“It was difficult to decide what to take home,” said Claudia. “There were so many choices!”

“This is such a friendly, creative community,” observed my friend Mary. “I can understand why you enjoy being here.”
